Onomichi Donkey Paradise
After we (Taiji and Junko) started living on top of a small hill overlooking the Seto sea, we suddenly felt as if we had entered the Andalusian scenery of Jimenez's "Platero and I". Inspired by its peaceful message, in 2012 we welcomed our first donkey, a female we named "Platera", and in 2016 a male "Darbon". As the years passed more donkeys came to the world, and we also welcomed goats and sheep. As of 2023, we host 8 donkeys and 5 goats, the sheep having since moved away.
We invite visitors at the farm to relax with the animals, petting and feeding them. Children are naturally welcome.
Visitors will enter the pen and be in direct contact with the animals, so we recommend wearing outdoor clothes and footwear.

Staying at the farm
Guests at the farm can take all the time they want in company of the animals. The local area is quiet, with the occasional cries of donkeys. The guest house gives a view on the donkeys on one side, and the Seto inland sea on the other.
Breakfast is included in the overall fee (see below). In the evening we can provide a house-made meal for an additional fee (on reservation). It is also possible to have a barbecue on the lawn if you can bring your own material (on reservation, additional fee applicable). The petting fee is included in the overall fee. Guests are welcome to help caring for the donkeys if desired (feeding, cleaning, brushing). In the broader area, the towns of Onomichi and Tomonoura are well-known touristic spots. |
